Flooding caused by days of heavy rain has forced nearly 4,900 people into shelters across Bangkok, Thailand, with about 52,000 households affected.

Axar.az reports, citing The Guardian, that more than 330 millimeters of rain fell in some parts of the Thai capital between Thursday and Sunday, prompting authorities to declare all 50 districts disaster zones.

Several roads and homes were inundated, while water levels in Bangkok’s canal network remained high. Authorities were working to accelerate drainage as more rain was forecast for Sunday.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt warned residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Hundreds of schools are also expected to close on Monday.

Residents described severe flooding, with one homeowner saying water had remained inside her house for two days and damaged large appliances including a refrigerator and washing machine.
