An overcrowded refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos cannot accommodate any more newly arrived asylum-seekers after it exceeded its intended capacity by 400 percent, authorities said.
Axar.az reports citing The Age that as 410 newcomers arrived from Turkey on Friday, island authorities said those who recently made it to Lesbos were sleeping in the open or in tents outside the Moria refugee camp.
The camp was built to host 3000 asylum seekers but is catering for 12,000, two regional officials said.
Some newcomers were being taken to a small transit camp run by the United Nations’ refugee agency on the island’s north coast.

Lesbos is one of five Greek islands off the Turkish coast with large camps. The movement of migrants to the Greek mainland is restricted.
