Why is the level of the Caspian Sea declining?

Due to the closed water basin, periodic changes in the level of the Caspian Sea are possible. The main factor in the change of level is the climate of its basin, and level fluctuations mainly depend on its water balance elements, ie the rivers that feed it and the amount of precipitation, as well as evaporation.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from Rasim Sattarzadeh, head of the Ecological Policy Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

According to him, tectonic movements on the seabed are also factors influencing the level change.
