President Ilham Aliyev said that Shusha is a sacred symbol for Azerbaijanis.

"Many of our cities, one might say, every corner of our country has a special historical significance. But Shusha has a great symbolic significance."

The president said that he met the news of the liberation of Shusha with great pride.

"I am proud that we have fulfilled our duty to history. It is a pity that our elders did not witnessthat day. Because tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis left life without seeing Shusha, without seeing its liberation."
