The new project to be implemented (reconstruction of the Shirvan irrigation channel - ed.) will cover 230 thousand hectares of cultivated land.

Axar.az reports that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said these words in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Shirvan irrigation canal, which will be rebuilt in Hajigabul district on April 16.

Noting that most of this will be newly irrigated farmland, the head of state said:

"If in the past this canal covered 8 districts, now it will cover 10 districts and the last point of the canal will be the Hajigabul lake in the back. Lake Hajigabul has been completely dry for more than 10 years. After the canal is put into use, the lake will be filled and this will have a very positive effect on nature."
