Today, October 21, marks the day when the Minjivan settlement in the Zangilan district was liberated from the Armenian armed forces.
Axar.az reports that it has been four years since the ancient settlement of Azerbaijan was cleansed from Armenian occupiers.
On October 21, 2020, in addition to Minjivan, the district also saw the liberation of Babayli, Uchunju Agalı, Saril, Khumarli, Hajalli, Khurama, Jahangirbeyli, Turabad, Icheri Mushlan, Qırag Mushlan, Melikli, Udgun, Baharli, as well as villages in the Jabrayil district such as Balyand, Papi, Tulus, and Tinli, and in the Fuzuli district, Gecegozlu, Ashage Seyidehmedli, and Zerger.
The Minjivan settlement is located on the banks of the Araz River, in a plain. It was formed as a result of families migrating from the Minjivan village in South Azerbaijan due to famine between 1795 and 1798, with the new settlement named after the original village. In the 19th century, two villages named Minjivan were recorded in the Zangezur district.
The settlement was occupied by the Armenian armed forces in 1993. Before the occupation, the area had residential buildings, schools, libraries, kindergartens, and a railway station. After the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, the Armenians destroyed all residential buildings, schools, libraries, and kindergartens, dismantling the railway. They sold part of the rails and used the rest to build anti-tank fortifications.
