Today, during the ongoing trial at the Baku Military Court, another video material related to the occupation of the Khojavend district was examined.

Axar.az reports video footage filmed by Armenians in April 1993 shows a group of armed servicemen in Azerbaijan’s Khojavend district, which was under occupation by Armenian armed forces at the time. Among those seen in the video are Serzh Sargsyan (President of Armenia from 2008 to 2018) and David Ishkhanyan, who is currently on trial.

It was revealed through the translation of the video footage in Armenian that Serzh Sargsyan had come to inspect military units.

In the footage, Monte Melkonyan is seen reporting to Sargsyan. Sargsyan tells him: “Right now, it’s not about a ceasefire. Right now, it’s about offensive operations and capturing more territory.”

The video then shows an inspection of the area, during which Serzh Sargsyan speaks with David Ishkhanyan. Ishkhanyan briefs him on the combat operations in Aghdam district and the situation in the direction of Abdal-Gulabli.

Later in the footage, the supply and logistics of the troops are discussed.

Serzh Sargsyan is also seen having a brief conversation with the soldiers.

Following the viewing of the footage in court, the prosecutors posed questions to the defendant, David Ishkhanyan, regarding the material.

While answering the questions of the prosecutors, David Ishkhanyan said that he remembered the filming of the video and the purpose of Serzh Sargsyan’s visit to the area. He added: “They came to my battalion. They were getting acquainted with the situation at the battalion’s positions.”

He also listed some of the individuals appearing in the video: “Serzh Sargsyan, Monte Melkonyan, Movses Hakobyan (later the former Chief of the General Staff of Armenia’s armed forces). At that time, he was Monte Melkonyan’s deputy. Another person in the video is my chief of staff, Aramayis Karapetyan.”

It should be noted that the trial of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia, who are accused of committing crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, including the preparation and conduct of an aggressive war, genocide, violations of the laws and customs of war, as well as terrorism, financing terrorism, seizing and retaining power by force, and other numerous crimes, continues.
