Russian bloggers target Markov over Shusha visit

Russian military bloggers have demanded the punishment of the famous political scientist Sergey Markov.

Axar.az reports that this was due to the political scientist's participation in the III Shusha Global Media Forum.

The bloggers accused Markov of excessive support for Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and called for him to be declared a foreign agent.

The Russian political scientist called this forum a unique opportunity to hear the views of the Azerbaijani President and communicate with colleagues from different countries.

"Undoubtedly, he (Ilham Aliyev - ed..) is one of the most experienced leaders in the modern world. He is a leader who represents a victorious country. There are not so many countries that have achieved complete victory in a war and liberated a territory like Karabakh. Many leaders would like to learn the secret of victory from him. We also want to ask the president these questions. And he, as is known, is a very wise, educated, and correct head of state," Markov said.

The political scientist called his critics marginal.

"I have received reports that several marginalized people have cursed me," Markov said.

He also said that during his speeches at international forums, he defended Russia's interests, and therefore, "the country's enemies" did not want him to participate in such events. In this regard, Markov called on people not to hinder him for the sake of his country.
