Former Turkiye coach Sepp Piontek dies at 85

Former coach of the Turkiye national football team, Sepp Piontek, has passed away at the age of 85.

Axar.az, citing Anadolu, reports that according to European media reports, the German coach, who managed the national team between 1990 and 1993, died due to illness, as confirmed by his family.

Piontek also coached Bursaspor in 1993.

On its website, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) expressed condolences:

"He played a major role in taking the first steps towards the rise of the Crescent-Stars on the international football stage. As the Turkish Football Federation, we express our deep sorrow over Piontek's passing and extend our condolences to his family, relatives, as well as to the German and Danish Football Federations."

Sepp Piontek left Denmark’s national team in 1990 and took charge of Turkiye’s national squad. During his 27 matches with Turkiye, he recorded 4 wins, 8 draws, and 15 losses.
