Sega console pioneer dies at 77

Hideki Sato, the creator of the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) and Dreamcast consoles, has died at the age of 77.

Axar.az informs that Sato died on February 13, 2026.

It is noted that he left a deep mark on the gaming industry, promoting the concept of home consoles with arcade-style graphics and unique games.

Hideki Sato joined Sega in 1971 and became one of the leading figures of the company. In 1989, he created the Sega Mega Drive, a game console that successfully competed with the popular Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Later, he led the development of the Saturn and Dreamcast consoles. The latter, despite its commercial failure, became a cult.
