NASA targets march 6 for crewed moon mission

NASA is targeting March 6 to launch Artemis II, a historic mission that will send astronauts around the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years.

Axar.az, citing BBC, reports that the 10-day mission will carry four astronauts aboard the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion capsule, marking humanity’s furthest crewed journey into space and paving the way for a future lunar landing.

The launch date was set after a successful “wet dress rehearsal” at Kennedy Space Center, following an earlier delay caused by a hydrogen fuel leak.

The crew, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, will orbit Earth before heading toward the Moon’s far side, traveling 6,500–9,500 km above the lunar surface. After completing the flyby and conducting observations, the astronauts will return to Earth for a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.
