More personal ChatGPT use could boost ads

OpenAI’s latest data shows that users are increasingly turning to the consumer version of ChatGPT for personal tasks rather than work-related activities.

Axar.az, citing Axios, reports that this trend, observed in 100,000 anonymized conversations from free and paid accounts between July 2024 and December 2025, could enhance OpenAI’s ad revenue potential even as it continues to target business customers with enterprise subscriptions.

While decreased work usage may limit the conversion pipeline for costly enterprise plans, personal use offers lucrative advertising opportunities, similar to major social media platforms.

OpenAI is currently experimenting with ads, unlike rivals such as Anthropic, which remains ad-free.
