Qatar has categorically denied claims that it detained Iranian pilots, calling the allegations misleading amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.

Axar.az reports that Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari made the statement on X.

“We categorically deny the claims circulating regarding the detention of Iranian pilots and are surprised by these misleading statements at this particular time, amid the ongoing diplomatic efforts & initiatives aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region,” Al Ansari said.

He said contact had been established with the pilots after they violated Qatari airspace and their flight path was confirmed.

“After following the rules of engagement & attempting to communicate with them without receiving a response, the necessary measures were taken to defend our territory in accordance with international law,” Al Ansari said.

He added that Qatar’s search and rescue teams had carried out operations to locate the pilots’ remains.

“Qatar’s search & rescue teams, which possess world-class expertise & capabilities, carried out their duties to the fullest in searching for the remains of the pilots,” he said.

According to Al Ansari, Qatar coordinated with Iran to hand over the remains of one pilot who was found, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

He also said Qatar had invited an Iranian team to visit the country in April to receive information about the search and rescue operations, but the Iranian side had yet to respond.

It should be noted that earlier reports claimed that Qatar had captured three Iranian pilots.
