iPhone import ban costs Iran $900m

Due to the import ban on iPhones, Iran has suffered a loss of $900 million.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Abdulmehdi Asadi, president of the Iranian Mobile Phone Exporters Association.

He mentioned that if the new government formed by President Masoud Pezeshkian does not lift the import ban, this damage will rise to $1.3 billion next year.

"In the past 2 years, the ban on iPhone imports has not only made it difficult to achieve the country's foreign currency reserve management goals but also led to the illegal outflow of approximately $900 million. There are reports that the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Industry are working to remove the ban."

It is noteworthy that although more than one-third of Iran's mobile phone imports are iPhone models, the import and registration of iPhone 14 and 15 models are prohibited in the country. This ban has led to the smuggling of iPhone models into the country.
