Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has signaled readiness to open a new chapter in relations ahead of President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Armenia.
Axar.az informs that in an article published by Mehr News Araghchi noted that Iran was among the first countries to recognize Armenia’s independence in 1991, underscoring Tehran’s support for its neighbors during historic moments.
Araghchi stressed that Armenians in Iran remain the country’s largest religious minority and play an active role in all aspects of society, from parliamentary representation to maintaining their culture through churches and institutions, reflecting Iran’s respect for religious diversity.
On economic ties, he said that even under unilateral sanctions, Iran has remained one of Armenia’s key trade partners. He emphasized that the two complementary economies create numerous opportunities for mutual growth and prosperity.
Geopolitically, Araghchi underscored the strategic importance of Iran-Armenia relations amid global and regional uncertainties. He described their shared border not only as a geographic reality but as a bridge for cooperation in energy, transport, people-to-people exchanges, and regional security.
He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peace and stability in the South Caucasus, stressing that sustainable security and any regional projects must respect territorial integrity, sovereignty, and mutual interests, without interference from external forces.
He concluded that President Pezeshkian’s visit to Armenia carries special significance, serving not only as a diplomatic engagement but also as a reaffirmation of the shared commitment to open new horizons in bilateral relations. Araghchi expressed confidence that the two countries, building on their history and looking toward the future, are ready to write a new chapter of long-standing friendship that will bring greater prosperity and security to both nations and the wider region.
It should be noted that on August 18, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will pay a visit to Armenia.
