The US administration expects the final peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia to be signed and ratified by the end of 2026.
Axar.az reports, citing Musavat.com, that the Foreign Policy publication reported on this.
The publication writes that this agreement is one of the largest attempts by the US to strengthen its influence in the post-Soviet space and is clear evidence that the Trump administration allegedly does not intend to "share the sphere of influence in the region with the Kremlin."
According to the information, the signed framework agreement paves the way for the preparation of a final document. This document envisages the restoration of the borders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the full normalization of diplomatic relations, and the opening of trade routes in the South Caucasus.
At the same time, the agreement also covers the implementation of economic and infrastructure projects in the region, the development of a transit corridor, and the attraction of large investments in the energy and transport sectors.
However, it is emphasized that there are risks in the process: deep distrust between Baku and Yerevan remains, and it is also likely that Russia and Iran may resist preserving their traditional influence in the region.
Recall that on August 8, President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a historic agreement in Washington, D.C., mediated by US President Donald Trump. This document served as a framework agreement between the parties, laying the foundation for future peace.
