US may gain access to Congo’s tantalum project

If US President Donald Trump helps to stop the military conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Americans will gain joint access to the Rubaya tantalum project.

Axar.az reports, citing Bloomberg sources, that the US and the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo are nearing an agreement to boost American investment in the Central African nation’s mineral resources, including copper, cobalt, and lithium. Rubaya is among the assets discussed in these negotiations, as tantalum plays a key role in high-tech industries such as electronics, aerospace, and defense.

However, any potential deal would require the withdrawal of the M23 rebels—supported by Rwanda—who currently control the region’s mining industry, including Rubaya, the report said.
