US clears $93 mln sale of anti-tank missile system to India

The United States has approved two major military sales to India, clearing the way for the supply of FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missile systems and M982A1 Excalibur precision-guided artillery projectiles worth an estimated USD 93 million.

Axar.az informs, citing Economic Times, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has delivered the required certification notifying the US Congress of the proposed transactions.

According to the agency, the package includes Excalibur projectiles and related equipment valued at USD 47.1 million, and Javelin missile systems and associated hardware estimated at USD 45.7 million.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to strengthen the U.S.-Indian strategic relationship and to improve the security of a major defense partner which continues to be an important force for political stability, peace, and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia regions,” the DSCA said in its statement.

The agency added that the sale “will not alter the basic military balance in the region.”
