Mirzoyan: Lasting peace depends on public trust

Building lasting peace in the region depends not only on the documents signed by states, but also on the mutual trust formed by societies.

Axar.az reports that this was said by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

Speaking at the summit of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum held in Brussels, Mirzoyan emphasized that people in the South Caucasus are already talking about real prospects for peace.

According to him, peace means not only the cessation of war, but also the establishment of trust between peoples.

“Governments sign agreements, but societies create trust. Real reconciliation and dialogue are in your hands. I call on the citizens of Azerbaijan and Armenia to support us on the path to peace,” Mirzoyan said.

The minister also assessed the direct meetings held in Yerevan and Baku between representatives of Armenian and Azerbaijani civil society in recent months as a positive step, noting that these contacts serve long-term stability in the region.
