EU prepares 20th sanctions package against Russia

The European Union member states are planning to adopt the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. The new package envisages expanding restrictions on individuals and sectors.

Axar.az informs that the Velt newspaper reported this, citing European diplomats.

It was stated that the plans include travel bans and asset freezes for certain individuals and organizations within the EU. Particular attention is paid to those responsible for the abduction of Ukrainian children.

In addition, it is planned to impose additional sanctions on the energy and banking sectors, as well as eliminate loopholes that allow circumvention of existing restrictions.

The EU is also discussing a ban on uranium imports from Russia and thus imposing sanctions on Rosatom. Although a number of member states support this initiative, France and Belgium oppose it.

According to diplomatic sources, the countries in question could purchase the uranium needed for the operation of nuclear power plants from South Africa, Australia or Canada, but this could be more expensive.

It should be noted that the EU's latest sanctions package was adopted on October 23.
