The United States has reportedly established a special task force to identify Iranian officials and security personnel involved in the violent suppression of recent protests, based on intelligence gathered with assistance from Israel and other regional partners.
Axar.az, citing Israel Hayom, reports that according to the intelligence, around 20,000 people were killed during the crackdown, most of them protesters and civilians. Hundreds were allegedly executed by hanging or firing squad, often without trial.
The bloodiest days were January 8–9, when Iranian security forces, including the Revolutionary Guard, Basij units, and police, used live ammunition and automatic weapons against demonstrators in multiple cities.
Testimonies and visual evidence indicate that wounded protesters were abducted from hospitals or shot at medical facilities, and that some doctors and medical staff were killed while trying to protect the injured. Intelligence agencies say executions and confirmation killings were carried out on the ground.
US officials are reportedly compiling a list of those responsible — including both commanders who issued orders and personnel who carried them out — amid uncertainty over whether the findings will lead to military action. Israeli officials say the scale of repression has significantly weakened Iran’s regime and made a return to the pre-protest status quo unlikely.
