The White House has launched TrumpRx, a discount prescription drug website that allows consumers to pay cash for medications instead of using insurance.
Axar.az, citing Axios, reports that the platform is part of President Donald Trump’s push to lower health care costs, though its overall impact on drug prices is expected to be limited.
TrumpRx does not sell drugs directly. Instead, it links users to drugmakers’ direct-to-consumer sites or coupons that can be used at pharmacies. Participating companies include Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk. A valid prescription is required, and cash purchases may not count toward insurance deductibles or out-of-pocket limits.
The administration says TrumpRx is designed to give consumers another option, particularly for high-cost drugs that insurers often don’t cover. This includes GLP-1 weight-loss medications, which will be available starting at $199 per month for injectable versions and $149 per month for oral tablets at introductory doses.
Democrats have raised legal and ethical concerns about the platform and the undisclosed nature of the pricing agreements. Supporters argue the site could accelerate a shift toward cash-based drug purchases, even if savings are modest.
