Peskov says Armenia is free to leave CSTO

Armenia may leave the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) if Yerevan no longer needs its membership.

Axar.az informs, citing local media, that Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

Commenting on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that Yerevan would be pleased if Armenia were expelled from the CSTO, Peskov said he found it difficult to understand what was meant by “would be pleased if it were expelled.”

“If Yerevan, based on its national interests, no longer needs membership in such an important organization for ensuring regional security, then it is free to make the appropriate decision and leave the organization,” he said.

It should be noted that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he would be pleased if the organization decided to expel Yerevan from the CSTO.
