One year into his second term, President Donald Trump is trailing former President Joe Biden in retrospective job approval comparisons, according to three new national polls, Axios reported.
Axar.az reports surveys from Harvard CAPS/Harris, Rasmussen Rеports, and YouGov/Economist all found that more voters say Trump is doing a worse job than Biden did, despite Biden’s own low approval ratings at the end of his presidency.
The findings signal mounting political vulnerability for Trump ahead of the midterm elections.
Polling suggests Trump’s core strengths, the economy and immigration, are now liabilities. An NBC News poll found 49% of adults strongly disapprove of his handling of border security and immigration. His net approval on the economy is significantly lower than at this point in his first term, with especially sharp declines among independents and young voters.
While Biden himself remains unpopular and largely absent from Democratic candidates' campaign messaging, broader public optimism is declining. Gallup reports that Americans’ expectations for their future quality of life have fallen to a nearly 20-year low.
Despite the troubling numbers for Trump, Republicans maintain a significant fundraising advantage heading into the midterms, and a Democratic wave is not assured.
