Russian Cultural Center in Nabatiyeh destroyed in IDF attack

Israeli Air Force fighter jets struck the city of Nabatiyeh in southern Lebanon, completely destroying the building that housed the Russian Cultural Center.

Axar.az reports, citing TASS, Asaad Diya, director of the center, said that there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the strike.

He added that, due to the dangerous situation in Nabatiye following the start of military operations, the center had already suspended its activities and evacuated its staff.

The Russian Cultural Center was established in Nabatiyeh in 2004 and occupied the first floor of a five-story building. It served as a socio-cultural hub where graduates of Russian universities and compatriots from across the southern region gathered.

“We ran Russian language courses, children engaged in music, dance, and drawing,” Diya noted. “We had a hall where ceremonial evenings celebrating Russian-Lebanese friendship and concerts were held.”

During the 2024 conflict, the premises suffered material damage. According to the director, repairs were not carried out immediately because assistance was needed for families affected by Israeli aggression. “The repair work was completed recently, and everyone was pleased,” he said.
