The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has summoned the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Kingdom following what it described as “unacceptable and inflammatory” social media comments by the Iranian embassy.
Axar.az reports, citing British Foreign Office, the summons was issued by Minister for the Middle East Hamish Falconer, who told the ambassador that the remarks were “completely unacceptable” and demanded an end to any communications that could be interpreted as encouraging violence in the UK or abroad.
“The Embassy must cease any form of communications that could be interpreted as encouraging violence in the UK or internationally,” Falconer said.
The FCDO also accused Iran’s leadership of wider destabilising activity, stating that the government would continue to challenge what it called “malign activities on UK soil,” attacks against allies in the Gulf, and internal repression.
“The UK Government is clear that protecting national security remains our top priority, and we will take all measures necessary to protect the British people,” the statement added.
The diplomatic move comes amid heightened tensions between London and Tehran as regional instability continues to escalate.
