Pakistan rolls out fuel-saving measures amid regional conflict

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday unveiled a series of steps aimed at conserving fuel and mitigating the impact of the ongoing war in the Middle East.

Axar.az informs the announcement follows a recent 20% increase in petrol and diesel prices, triggered by disruptions in the global oil supply caused by the regional conflict.

Key measures include a temporary suspension of salaries and allowances for cabinet ministers, ministers of state, advisers, and special assistants to the prime minister for two months; a four-day workweek for government offices (excluding banking and essential services); and up to 50% of government employees working from home on alternate days.

All schools will observe spring holidays from March 16 to 31, 2026, while examinations will continue as scheduled. Colleges and universities will switch to fully online classes during this period.
