US, China FMs hold call ahead of possible Trump–Xi summit

A phone conversation took place between China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Axar.az reports, citing South China Morning Post, the discussion focused on stabilizing bilateral relations and preparing for upcoming high-level engagements between the two countries.

During the call, Wang Yi emphasized that the Taiwan issue is “the biggest risk factor” in China–U.S. relations and stressed that ties should be based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial cooperation. He urged the United States to honor its commitments and contribute to global stability.

Rubio, in turn, stated that U.S.–China relations are among the most important in the world and noted that Washington is ready to maintain dialogue, manage differences pragmatically, and continue coordination with Beijing.

The conversation also addressed regional and global issues, including the situation in the Middle East, and is seen as part of preparations for a potential meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.
