Bashkortostan, Tatarstan lead Russia in Ukraine war deaths

Bashkortostan and Tatarstan rank first among all regions of Russia in terms of confirmed military deaths in the war in Ukraine.

Axar.az reports, citing the Russian service of the BBC, that investigators have identified the names of 216,205 Russian soldiers killed in the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The report adds that confirmed losses in Bashkortostan and Tatarstan have now together exceeded Soviet losses during the 10-year war in Afghanistan.

In the past two weeks alone, Bashkortostan has surpassed 9,500 confirmed deaths, while Tatarstan has exceeded 8,000. Combined, confirmed losses in the two regions amount to 18,116 people, according to the report.
