Azerbaijani rowers excelled at the international “President’s Cup-2026” tournament in academic rowing, kayaking, and canoeing, dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, winning nine medals.
Axar.az reports that the closing day of the ‘Kur’ Olympic Training and Sports Center events saw Azerbaijani athletes win 4 medals, including 1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronzes.
In the two-person kayak 200-meter race (2008–2009 age category), Tengiz Gagnidze and Giyas Ahmadov claimed the gold medal. In the same event, Niyaz Malikov and Ivan Vorobyanski took silver.
Sanan Jafarzade and Tahir Movsumov secured bronze in the two-person kayak 1000-meter race (2010–2011 age category), while another bronze was won in the 1500-meter academic rowing event by Azar Ilyasov and Tunar Mammadzade.
Overall, the Azerbaijani team finished the “President’s Cup 2026” international regatta with 9 medals — 2 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze.
More than 100 athletes from up to 20 countries competed in the event. Georgia won the overall team title in both academic rowing and canoe disciplines.
It is noted that, by order of President Ilham Aliyev, the “President’s Cup 2026” regatta was held for the first time starting from the Sarsang Reservoir, with subsequent stages taking place in Sugovushan and Mingachevir.
