Yerevan is trying at the same time to preserve the benefits of its membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) while also developing closer ties with the European Union (EU).
Axar.az reports that this was stated by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, on his “Max” channel, where he criticized Armenia’s pro-EU course.
Medvedev said that those who try to “sit on two chairs” risk a painful fall.
“It seems a person nicknamed Nikol is planning to do exactly that in the near future. While trying to preserve all the advantages of EAEU membership, he is stubbornly dragging his so-called ‘superpower’ toward the EU. At the same time, the Armenian leadership expects not only deeper ties with the EU, but also to maintain current Russian gas prices. Russia is obliged to keep gas prices for its ‘partner’ abroad at $177.5 per thousand cubic meters.”
He added that by May 2026, European gas exchange prices had reached $570–590 per thousand cubic meters.
“It is clear to everyone that if they switch to European gas prices, people in that country will beat this man with rotten rags and chase him all the way to Paris, to his dear friend (French President Emmanuel Macron). That is why he is forced to take such steps in order to please everyone.”
It should be noted that in recent days, critical comments about Pashinyan have been voiced both inside and outside the country. His actions during the election campaign have put the current prime minister in an embarrassing position.
