Moscow threatens to suspend energy deal with Armenia

Russia will unilaterally suspend or terminate its agreement with Armenia on gas, oil products, and raw diamonds if the country continues its EU accession process.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, the Russian Embassy in Armenia has officially delivered a letter from Russia’s Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev to Armenia’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, warning that continued EU integration efforts could lead to the suspension or termination of the 2013 agreement.

Under the 2013 deal, Russia had waived export duties on fuel, gas, and diamonds supplied to Armenia as part of its integration into the Eurasian Economic Union. The agreement also regulates supply volumes for domestic consumption and prohibits re-export.
