Moscow restates proposal on Iranian uranium removal

A Russian proposal regarding the removal of Iran’s highly enriched uranium remains on the table.

Axar.az reports, according to the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, that Moscow has not withdrawn the initiative.

“We emphasize that the proposal repeatedly mentioned by Russian President Vladimir Putin — to transport the material to Russia in stages acceptable to all parties, so that it can ultimately be used to produce fuel for Iranian reactors — remains fully ‘on the table,’ and we are not withdrawing it,” he said.

Ryabkov added that Russia is not imposing its idea on anyone, but considers it reasonable based on previous experience under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

He also noted that Russia is aware of ongoing discussions and various proposals from different sides, adding that if an agreement is reached, further steps regarding Iran’s highly enriched uranium would be developed in detail in the future.

It should be noted that earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had proposed transferring enriched uranium from Iran to Russia; however, the proposal was reportedly rejected by the United States.
