Turkiye warns against ‘uncontrolled escalation’

Turkiye warned against “uncontrolled escalation” in the Black Sea region after a drone attack on Thursday night hit a Turkish cargo ship.

Axar.az informs that in a written statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said:

“It has been confirmed that a Turkish-owned cargo ship flying the Vanuatu flag and carrying dry cargo from Odesa to Turkiye was attacked by a drone last night, leaving two Turkish crew members slightly injured. The condition of our citizens aboard the vessel is being closely monitored by our Consulate General in Odesa.”

The ministry said Turkiye has repeatedly conveyed its concerns to all relevant parties over the growing war-related escalation in the Black Sea and the risks it poses to the region, including possible consequences for Turkiye.

The statement also reiterated calls to avoid actions that could trigger an uncontrolled escalation of the war. It stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of civilian shipping in the Black Sea and resolving the conflict through negotiations.

“We remind all relevant parties that we are ready to support region-based and result-oriented measures aimed at preventing further escalation and accelerating the peace process,” the ministry added.
