UK military antenna plans spark concern in Cyprus

Great Britain’s plans to install 32 new military communications antennas at its Akrotiri base in southern Cyprus have sparked concern in the region.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, that local residents have opposed the project, citing worries over radiation emissions from the antennas.

According to the report, residents fear the installation could increase the risk of cancer.

Following public backlash, the Kourion Municipality, where the base is located, requested a legal expert opinion. Officials also noted that the issue could be taken to the European Court of Human Rights if necessary.
