Israel’s Knesset postpones Armenian genocide bill vote

Israel’s parliament (Knesset) has postponed a vote on a bill that would recognize the events of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire as the so-called "Armenian genocide", according to the Jerusalem News Syndicate.

Axar.az reports that, according to the publication, the decision was made amid rising regional tensions over Iran and shortly after the NATO summit in Turkiye. During the summit, Ankara urged U.S. President Donald Trump to approve the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkiye.

An Israeli official told the publication that the planned vote in parliament had been suspended. The Knesset will begin its summer recess this week, and parliamentary sessions will not be held until the next national elections scheduled for October 27.

It was previously reported that in June, the Israeli Cabinet unanimously approved an initiative to recognize the 1915 events as the “Armenian genocide” amid a sharp deterioration in relations with Turkiye. For the bill to enter into force, it still required final approval by the Knesset.
