Armenia's government has resigned in line with the start of the new parliament's term.

Axar.az reports, citing Armenian media, that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed his resignation letter and submitted it to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan.

Pashinyan noted that, under Armenian law, the government is required to resign on the day the newly elected parliament holds its first session.

"Until a new government is formed, the current cabinet will continue to perform its duties. After that, the president of Armenia will appoint as prime minister the candidate nominated by the party that received the most votes. The candidate will be presented today, and the appointment is expected to take place," he said.
