Explosions have occurred in part of the warehouses at the ammunitions plant in the village of Belitsa (central Bulgaria) following a truck catching fire.

Axar.az reports, citing Bulgarian News Agency, that the Mayor of the nearby town of Tryavna, Dencho Minev, made the remarks in a Facebook post on Monday. The area has been cordoned off, Minev added.

There have been no fatalities or injuries as a result of the fire, Minev said on Facebook later in the day. The fire in the facility was extinguished by firefighters from Tryavna and Gabrovo.

All workers have been evacuated by the EMCO Ltd. ammunition plant, Minev added.

“Work is currently underway to extinguish fires that have spread through wooded areas near the site of the incident. The causes of the fire will only be established at a later stage,” he added. “Due to smoke and air pollution, we urge people to keep the windows of their homes closed, use protective masks and avoid going outdoors,” Minev also said.
