Armenian court lifts detention of 'HayaQve' coordinator

An Armenian court has decided to lift the detention of Avetik Chalabyan, coordinator of the national civic association “HayaQve.”

Axar.az reports, citing Armenian media, that Judge David Balayan announced the decision.

“Having heard the positions of the parties regarding the change and extension of the preventive measure, the court decided to lift the detention imposed as a preventive measure. The court finds that there is no need to impose any other preventive measure,” the judge said.

Chalabyan was detained on June 24 and remanded in custody by a court decision. He was charged with preparing to obstruct citizens from exercising their electoral rights during the parliamentary elections held on June 7, 2026. Chalabyan denies the charges.

Chalabyan is known as one of the main critics of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government. He is the coordinator of the “HayaQve” national civic movement.
