Does the EU invest 500 billion euros in the defense sector?

In the next 10 years, the European Union needs to invest 500 billion euros in the defense sector.

Axar.az reports with reference to "Politico" that the chairman of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said this.

The publication notes that it is not clear whether this figure includes money for the continued supply of arms to Ukraine.

At the same time, Leyen stressed that before Russia's full-scale intervention in Ukraine in 1999-2021, the EU increased its defense spending by 20 percent, China by 600 percent, and Russia by 300 percent.
