Javier Colomina, NATO Secretary General's special representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, answered the questions of the Armenia section of the "Voice of America" radio about the Armenia-Azerbaijan process.
Axar.az reports with reference to Trend that Colomina emphasized that stability in the South Caucasus region is important for NATO and expressed the alliance's support for the peace process between Yerevan and Baku with the participation of the USA and the EU.
"We strongly support the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, negotiations aimed at establishing peace and concluding a long-term peace agreement between them. We are trying to lead our partners in the right direction. For us, the right way is to regulate relations, because this will bring stability to the Caucasus," Kolomina said. .
He stated that the Caucasus has a direct impact on the Black Sea region, and the Black Sea is a region of NATO's strategic interests:
"Therefore, stability in the region is in our interest, because instability affects us."
When asked whether he has seen progress in the Armenia-Azerbaijani peace process, Kolomina said that he believes that he will see positive progress, and he particularly noted the tripartite meeting held in Washington with the mediation of State Secretary Anthony Blinken.
"I believe there is progress. I don't know where it will take us, but we will continue to support this process as much as we can," said the special representative of the NATO Secretary General.
