Ukraine is conducting a defensive war, pushing Russian artillery away from civilian areas and trying to cut off logistics routes to prevent Russia from efficiently moving its military reserves across the front line.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to the Ukrainian President’s Office, while outlining the four political objectives of the attack on Kursk region.

“They do not understand what is happening, are incapable of making quick, effective decisions, and once again prove that they have very little control over the situation with their actions. We saw how shocked people were when we entered Kursk region: they live in a different reality. They believe that the war is already taking place in European countries, but that they are not at risk. Now they see a completely different situation. Naturally, this will have severe social consequences for Russia,” he said.

Podolyak emphasized that Ukraine does not aim to occupy the territory of Kursk region but is fighting within the framework of defense and only targeting military objects:

“Social facilities remain under the control of the Russian Federation—they hold no value for Ukraine.”
