A female student who removed her clothing down to her underwear at an Iranian university does not pose a security threat but is a "troubled individual" who is currently receiving treatment, a government spokesperson said.
Axar.az reports that , citing Reuters, the incident occurred on Saturday at the Islamic Azad University in Tehran, where the young woman’s actions were widely interpreted on social media as a protest against Iran's strict Islamic dress code.
"Instead of viewing this incident through a security lens, we are addressing it through a social perspective and are focused on helping this individual, who is clearly troubled," government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated on Tuesday, marking the first official response to the event.
She confirmed that the young woman, identified on social media as Ahoo Daryaei, had been transferred from a police station to a treatment center, though details about the specific treatment were not provided.
The woman was initially detained by security guards at Islamic Azad University. University spokesperson Amir Mahjob later explained on X that, after being brought to the police station, it was determined that she was under significant mental distress and had a mental disorder.
