German police have arrested eight individuals suspected of being members of a right-wing extremist group motivated by racist ideologies and conspiracy theories.

Axar.az reports that, citing Reuters, the group had been training for warfare with the aim of overthrowing the modern German state, prosecutors reported on Tuesday.

The arrests were made during a major police operation involving 450 officers to dismantle the group, identified by prosecutors as the "Saechsische Separatisten" (Saxony Separatists).

"We have successfully thwarted, at an early stage, the plans of right-wing terrorists who were hoping for a 'Day X' to launch armed attacks against people and our state," said Interior Minister Nancy Faeser in a statement.

The group, which was formed no later than November 2020, is described as a militant faction of 15 to 20 individuals whose beliefs are rooted in racist, anti-Semitic, and partially apocalyptic views, according to the federal prosecutor's office.
