Nawaf Salam, the President of the International Court of Justice, has been appointed as Lebanon's Prime Minister.

Axar.az reports that this was announced by the Office of the President of Lebanon.

"President Joseph Aoun, following consultations with parliamentary factions, has tasked Nawaf Salam with forming Lebanon's new government," the statement read.

It should be noted that the 71-year-old diplomat and lawyer Nawaf Salam served as Lebanon's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2007 to 2017. In 2018, he was elected as a member of the International Court of Justice, and on February 6, 2024, he became its President.

Salam belongs to an aristocratic family from Beirut, and his cousin Tammam Salam led Lebanon's government from 2014 to 2016.
