Secretary of State Antony Blinken outlined detailed post-war plans for Gaza, emphasizing the need to avoid a power vacuum after the prolonged Israel-Hamas conflict.
Axar.az, citing CNN, reports that speaking at the Atlantic Council, Blinken proposed an international interim administration led by the Palestinian Authority (PA) with global funding and oversight. The plan includes establishing a security mission with international and vetted Palestinian forces to stabilize the region and rebuild infrastructure.
Blinken advocated for the reunification of Gaza and the West Bank under a reformed PA as part of a pathway to a time-bound, conditions-based independent Palestinian state. He highlighted the risks of continued extremism, criticized Israeli settlement expansions, and warned against actions that weaken the PA.
The initiative ties into broader regional goals, including a potential Israel-Saudi normalization deal, which Blinken described as pivotal for long-term peace and integration. He stressed that without a clear political alternative, Hamas or similar groups would continue to thrive, perpetuating conflict and insurgency.
