The US won’t be a security guarantor for Armenia

I don’t expect anything good from this agreement. If you recall, the U.S. and Ukraine signed a similar agreement in November 2021, and just three months later, Russia invaded Ukraine.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by James W. Carden, a senior advisor to the American Committee on the US-Russia Accord (ACURA), in an extensive interview with Armenian media. He was commenting on the strategic partnership agreement signed between the U.S. and Armenia.

"Unfortunately, we’ve already seen what this leads to. At NATO’s Bucharest Summit in 2008, a decision was made regarding Ukraine and Georgia’s potential NATO membership. In August of that year, during the Six-Day War, Russia invaded Georgia. Later, in 2014, Ukraine’s rapprochement with the West sparked the Maidan movement and civil war, ultimately leading to Russia’s large-scale invasion in February 2022.

The idea that the U.S. could replace Russia or Iran as Armenia’s guarantor of security might seem appealing to Washington bureaucrats, most of whom have never been to Armenia or can't find it on a map. However, for Armenia, this is a highly risky step.This decision could leave the country vulnerable to the plans of Turks," he added.
