The authorities of Canada, China, and Mexico will not be able to avoid tariffs being imposed on their products by Washington within the next 24 hours.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by U.S. President Donald Trump during a press conference at the White House in response to journalists' questions.

President Donald Trump said Friday he would place 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico and 10% tariffs on goods from China effective Saturday.

When asked later Friday in the Oval Office whether Canada, Mexico and China could do anything to stop the implementation of the tariffs, Trump said, “No.”

Trump had been threatening the tariffs to ensure greater cooperation from the countries on stopping illegal immigration and the smuggling of chemicals used for fentanyl, but he has also pledged to use tariffs to boost domestic manufacturing and raise revenues for the federal government.

"It's a pure economic — we have big deficits with, as you know, with all three of them," Trump said. "We're not looking for a concession, and we'll just see what happens."
