Turkiye's new ambassador to Azerbaijan, Birol Akgun, has started his duties as of February 1.

Axar.az reports that the Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan shared this information on its official X account.

It was noted that Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, accepted the copy of Birol Akgun's credentials on January 31.

Recall that on January 10, based on the decision of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Birol Akgün was appointed as Turkiye's extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Azerbaijan.

Previously, the position of Turkiye's ambassador to Azerbaijan was held by Cahid Bagci, whose diplomatic term in Azerbaijan ended on December 14, 2024.
