Although Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced in a press conference yesterday that no meeting is scheduled with newly elected President Trump during his visit to the U.S., our sources report that the Armenian authorities have made efforts through all possible channels to arrange a meeting between Trump and Pashinyan. The entire Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Armenian Embassy in the U.S., and influential Armenian Republicans in the U.S. have all been involved in making such requests. However, the meeting has not materialized. They are now attempting to arrange a meeting with the newly appointed Secretary of State, Rubio.
Axar.az reports that this information was shared by the “Hraparak” publication.
It was noted that Pashinyan attempted to pressure the Americans by traveling to Washington, telling them, "I’ve already come, so meet with me." The opportunity was provided by the religious conference and the National Prayer Breakfast event, but the plan did not work out. There is confusion in the community about his desire to "pray," as everyone is aware of his attitude toward religion and the church.
Incidentally, a meeting with the Armenian community is scheduled for February 3 at the embassy, with invitations sent to Armenians living in Washington and surrounding areas. Yet, many are refusing to participate, boycotting the event due to concerns that Pashinyan will again speak about the genocide and plan protests.
